Panels

For the exhibition, 60 informative panels have been produced, everyone representing the state of the art. Texts in more than one language - as given here in German-English or German-French – already gained high acceptance in our exhibition French Donjons. They cover in a didactic manner more general topics as well as significant single buildings. One focus is laid on medieval orders of knights which dominated the making of castles in the 13th century. But Muslim fortresses and city walls are shown as well in an appropriate manner. Historical contexts are given from different cultural and religious points of view, supported by maps. Although the exhibition focuses on levantine castles, European contexts and the developments in Southern and Eastern Europe including new fields of activity for the knightly orders after the fall of the Crusader States in Near East are not denied.
